This morning I woke up and did the usual … quick workout, shower, turn on computer and check emails, etc. One email I clicked on, an inspirational, had this to say:
‘When Churchill was asked the secret of his success he answered, “Leverage.” The subsequent question was, “What do you leverage?”
To which he answered, “Four things: My mind, my experience, my time and my money… in that order!”
He went on to say, “Unfortunately most unsuccessful people do just the opposite. They leverage their money, their time, their experience followed by their mind.”
Obviously, to truly utilize your mind your must fully understand your mind.’
Hmm, I have way too much time to think these days! However, I went on search for what the hell leverage really is… I know, I know leverage: when you use a little of something to sway or get something bigger, right?
Well, here’s what dictionary.com had to say:
lev⋅er⋅age
/ˈlɛvərɪdʒ, ˈlivər-/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [lev-er-ij, lee-ver-] Show IPA noun, verb, -aged, -ag⋅ing.
Use leverage in a Sentence
–noun
1. the action of a lever.
2. the mechanical advantage or power gained by using a lever.
3. power or ability to act or to influence people, events, decisions, etc.; sway: Being the only industry in town gave the company considerable leverage in its union negotiations.
4. the use of a small initial investment, credit, or borrowed funds to gain a very high return in relation to one’s investment, to control a much larger investment, or to reduce one’s own liability for any loss.
–verb (used with object)
5. to exert power or influence on.
6. to provide with leverage.
7. to invest or arrange (invested funds) using leverage.
So now the real question is … how does one leverage their mind, their experince, and time? And if you wondered why I didn’t add money… hahaha, I’m in Asia teaching English!
I think it’s time to complete the morning and get some real coffee.
